The Athina

Athina was built by Lagoon, now part of the Beneteau Group, and provides plenty of space to relax and enjoy sailing with an ever-present waterfront view. Designed by world-renowned naval architects Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prevost, Lagoons remain some of the most respected and sought-after catamarans on the water.
With her wide beam and open layout, Athina offers a front-row seat to Michigan’s most iconic cruising grounds. Glide through the clear blue of East Tawas Bay, drop anchor off the shores of Mackinac Island, or explore the quiet beauty of the Les Cheneaux Islands. Whether you're sipping coffee in the shaded aft cockpit or sunbathing on the forward trampoline, every space on board is designed to slow you down and pull you closer to the water.
Athina’s stability and comfort make her ideal for everything from day sails out of Mackinaw City to multi-day adventures across northern Lake Huron.
At 44 feet long and 25 feet wide, Athina offers three large outdoor areas to relax. The flybridge helm provides 360-degree views, while the open aft cockpit is protected under a rigid bimini top, and the bow trampolines are perfect for dozing. Inside, a spacious saloon provides a panoramic view and has a large L-shaped galley that faces the aft cockpit. A large dining table can be set either inside the saloon or in the aft cockpit and can comfortably accommodate six adults.

Built in the south of France over a decade ago, Athina spent her early years cruising the Mediterranean. She explored quiet coastal towns and hidden anchorages—most memorably among the islands of Greece, where she found her name. Inspired by the Greek goddess of wisdom and paired with a unique spelling, Athina is truly one of a kind.
After her time in Europe, she crossed the Atlantic and continued her journey through a series of culturally rich ports.
Now calling the Great Lakes home, Athina brings with her a spirit of exploration and a story shaped by oceans. Her journey is far from over—and she’s ready to share her next chapter with you.

Meet the Captain
Gerald "Jerry" Schroeder is a seasoned mariner and the founder of Great Lakes Marine Charters, offering crewed yacht charters aboard the 44-foot sailing catamaran Athina from East Tawas, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island.
Originally from the St. Clair Flats area, Jerry has spent the past decade sailing globally on vessels like cargo ships, cable-laying ships, and private sailboats. An avid kiteboarder, he aims to share his maritime experiences with clients on the Great Lakes.
Our deckhands rotate throughout the season, but each one is personally vetted by the captain and bring solid sailing experience in their own right.
